guru road art installations near gerlach nv

Welcome to Guru Road, one of Nevada’s most beloved open-air art galleries. Located a couple miles north of Gerlach, this mile-long adventure leads to unexpected sculptures, hand-carved words of wisdom, and more moments for reflection.

Witness a weather station, a tribute to Elvis, and the Desert Broadcast System along Guru Road, where art and nature combine for thought-provoking experiences.

Guru Road (also known as Dooby Lane) is the legacy of Gerlach local DeWayne “Dooby” Williams, who built the area up between 1978 and 1992 with help from Dan Deveny. The attraction runs adjacent to State Route 34, and the entrance is marked with a street sign that says “Guru Road.” Park near that starting point and walk the entirety of Guru Road to see all the surprises along the way.

Some Guru Road art installations are more lighthearted and showcase Williams’ sense of humor, while other powerful inscriptions include grass-roots wisdom, making this eccentric stop an immersive folk-art experience. At least one inscription is sure to strike a chord with anyone who visits. Larger sculptures, like “TV Station” and “Big Medicine,” encourage visitors to step inside for the full experience.
