Dancers and drummers come from around the continent to participate in the Numaga Indian Days Powwow, the largest of its kind in the Silver State. Three days of family-friendly festivities—including grand entries, special performances, and numerous contests—take place just outside Reno over Labor Day Weekend.
Free to attend and open to the public, the Numaga Indian Days Powwow is an annual celebration hosted by the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony. Drumming talent will be on full display as competitors vie for $18,000 in total prizes, while champion dancers in stunning ceremonial attire wow the crowds. Grand entries occur Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sunday at noon. Before the official powwow begins, a princess pageant kicks off the fun on Thursday, August 29.
Additional activities include a strong man competition, horseshoe and handgame tournaments, and a 3 Nations wellness fun run/walk. Food and drink vendors will be on site, as will makers selling jewelry, art, and additional goods. Dry camping (with showers available) is also an option for attendees.
