Mornings start a little earlier when there’s magic in the sky. At the Ruby Mountain Balloon Festival, the crisp September air gives way to brilliant bursts of color as balloons lift gently over the Elko landscape. It’s a celebration built on community spirit, early riser awe, and the unmistakable joy of watching the sky fill with drifting giants.
The sky is the limit for the Ruby Mountain Balloon Festival.
The Ruby Mountain Hot Air Balloon Festival has found a new home in Elko City Park, bringing the entire celebration together in one centralized, community-friendly space. Balloons launch every morning, and there’s also a Balloon Glow show after sunset on Friday.
This year’s event also features a double whammy of skyward celebration. Partnering with the Ruby Mountain Balloon Festival, the Elko Skyfair takes place on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Enjoy hot air balloons in the morning, then head to the Elko Regional Airport to see even more aircraft on display.
Hosted by Ruby Mountain Hot Air Inc., the event is organized by a dedicated nonprofit that relies on community support and local sponsorships to keep this cherished tradition soaring. Raffles, surprises, and the signature Nevada skies make this a feel-good weekend worth rising early for.
