fly fishing at crystal peak park in verdi nevada

Located along the Truckee River in the tiny pioneer town of Verdi, Crystal Peak Park is a world away from the bustle of the modern era. This sprawling, 56-acre riparian wonderland is the perfect mid-day getaway, whether you’re enjoying a picnic with the family, birdwatching while beachside, angling for cutthroat trout in Verdi Pond, or wandering its history-packed interpretive trail.

Set between the raging Truckee and the towering, piney Sierra Nevada, you can be forgiven for forgetting this park is just a stone’s throw from the Great Basin Desert.

Explore the history of Crystal Peak Park on the Interpretive Loop Trail, just over half a mile in length. Two other trails—Verdi Mill Pond Trail and Fishermans Trail—are out-and-back options also under a mile. Anglers (especially families with young children) enjoy ADA-accessible docks at Verdi Pond. The Truckee River also provides excellent fly fishing opportunities. Visit the Nevada Department of Wildlife’s website for stocking updates and to purchase your required fishing license.

Crystal Peak Park features paved parking lots, five picnic sites, two group areas, and restroom facilities. Groups of 25 or more must reserve a picnic pavilion.
