Virginia & Truckee Railway
Forged in the heat of Nevada’s silver boom, the Virginia & Truckee (V&T) Railroad Co. began operations in 1869 as the link between the Comstock Lode mines and the outside world. These trains carried ore, freight, and passengers—everything the growing frontier town of Virginia City needed. When the last original train rolled in 1950, these rails could have fallen silent forever. But today, hop onboard the restored V&T Railway and get ready for a full-day adventure from Carson City to Virginia City, weaving through mountains and canyons, with a 3.5-hour stop to shop, dine, and explore the old mining town.
Get ready for a full-day adventure traveling from Carson City to Virginia City on the same route miners did 150 years ago.
From May to October, take a 24-mile roundtrip journey through the Comstock on a restored steam locomotive. Travel the route the train used 150 years ago as it brought miners, shopkeepers, and other fortune seekers to the biggest silver strike in U.S. history. Relive a piece of history as you see majestic scenery, old mines, wild horses, a 120-feet-deep mining pit, and more along your journey to Virginia City.
Specialty trains run throughout the year, including the Polar Express, Mark Twain Days, Toast of the Canyons wine trains, and Mother’s Day Train.
