Not only is “Cannella” the family name behind the Ferino Distillery; it’s also the Italian word for “cinnamon.” And each of the fragrant spirits produced and bottled onsite is infused with a touch of cinnamon to invoke a scintillating sipping experience unlike any other.

The Story Behind the Ferino Distillery

When Ferino Distillery founder Joe Cannella visited Italy in 2010, he became enraptured by the array of traditional liqueurs he tasted while on tour. Specifically, the cinnamon-infused spirits that harked back to ancient Italy when spiced liqueurs were a favorite beverage.

Joe Cannella returned to the United States with a newfound passion for cinnamon spirits and began experimenting at home making cinnamon liqueurs in the traditional Italian fashion. A company was born. In 2019, Joe launched his own amaro distillery in Reno, Nevada. Today, you can taste all of his flavorful concoctions and take a distillery tour to learn how the Ferino Distillery is upholding ancient Italian distilling methods, smack dab in the “Biggest Little City in the World.”

Ferino Distillery Spirits

With three award-winning cinnamon liqueurs, you’ll find plenty of ways to spice up an afternoon or evening at the Ferino Distillery. The distillery features a full bar, bottle shop, and coffee bar, so you can grab a craft cocktail, sample the small-batch spirits, and even get a dose of caffeine when you’re ready to head back out into the world.

Try the Cannella Cinnamon Cordial, which is the Ferino Distillery’s original liqueur and a classic, after-dinner sipper rich in cinnamon notes. The Amaro Cannella is a bitter liqueur with an anise-forward nose and hints of citrus, and of course, cinnamon. Finally, the Fernet Cannella is for those aperitivo aficionados who love a bitter potion. Herb-infused with myrrh, saffron, and turmeric, the Fernet Cannella is a must-try!
