There’s no better way to get to know Nevada’s cultural history and heritage than by digging in one course at a time, and Bakarra Basque Bistro is just the ticket. Situated in the heart of northern Nevada in Winnemucca, strong drinks, garlic loaded steaks and fall-off-the-bone lamb shanks beckon ol’ Basco pros to newcomers off the highway looking for a good bite to eat, and everyone in between. All you’ve gotta do is show up hungry, thirsty, and ready to make a couple new friends.

Whether you come face to face with the legendary Picon Punch, or get to know this hearty cuisine through garlic-loaded feast, head for a northern Nevada Basque Boardinghouse to get to know this regional cuisine and the culture that made it.

A longstanding fixture of the Winnemucca food and drink scene, this tried and true Basque restaurant was formerly Ormachea’s Dinner House and recently renamed Bakarra Basque Bistro. Despite its name and management team the Basque spirit is alive and well here, which can be felt from every corner of the bar counter and dining room.

For lunch, you can’t go wrong with ordering up a Basque classic: the Steak Sandwich served on crusty fresh bread drizzled in a signature house sauce. Or order up the Bakarra Basco Burger made with local chorizo, grilled pimentos, and pepper jack cheese. While most Basque restaurants across northern Nevada include family-style seating and dining, Bakarra Basque Bistro embraces a slight departure with personal tables and entrees. Though you won’t be sharing all courses with your dinner party and then some, count on traditional Basque favorites on this menu. Order up Basque favorites like steamed clams, chorizo and cheese, garlic loaded steaks, rack of lamb, and beyond.
