There’s no better place to get a handle on Nevada’s Western heritage than the oldest rodeo in the Silver State. Founded in 1912 by world-famous buckaroo gear maker G.S. Garcia, the Silver State Stampede brings thousands of rodeo fans to Elko each summer for PRCA-sanctioned action, ranch-country tradition, and plenty of high-desert horsepower.
Nevada’s oldest rodeo rides into Elko with PRCA action, mutton busting, mini bulls, the legendary Ring of Fear, and a massive western trade show.
Held at the Elko County Fairgrounds in the heart of Nevada’s Cowboy Country, the Silver State Stampede rounds up classic rodeo events like roping, barrel racing, mutton busting, mini bulls, and more. Then there’s the legendary Ring of Fear, an Elko-only thrill where six brave contestants step inside an enclosed ring with a raging bull and try to outlast the dust, nerves, and horns.
Beyond the arena, the weekend packs in a western trade show, live music, dancing after Friday and Saturday rodeo events, and the crowning of Miss Silver State Stampede Queen. The celebration keeps hoofing through town with the Silver State Stampede Parade on July 4, filling downtown Elko with horses, floats, and hometown pride.
