Kit Carson Trail

The holy grail of Nevada historic walking tours, the Kit Carson Trail brings you back to the 1860s when these historic homes were built to house government officials of the new Nevada Territory, Comstock millionaires, and everyone in between. Situated in Carson City’s historic district, otherwise known as the West Side Historic District, following the Kit Carson Trail promises nearly 50 landmarks that have been part of the Carson City story since the very beginning.

Ready to discover Nevada’s capital? There’s no better way to peer into the Silver State’s past than walking the self-guided, 2.5-mile Kit Carson Trail.

Stops Along the Kit Carson Trail

Honoring American frontiersman Kit Carson, the Kit Carson Trail (Formerly called the Carson City Blue Line Trail) explores an impressive 48 individual stops where you’ll have the chance to learn all about 1800s-era Victorian style mansions, hotels, churches—many of which are now private homes. Pick up a route map at the Visit Carson City Visitor Center, then embark on your tour with stop number one at the mighty Carson City Mint-turned-Nevada State Museum. Other amazing stops include lumber tycoon D.L. Bliss’ mansion, the Nevada Governor’s Mansion, Legendary Nevadan Dat So La Lee’s home, the Brewery Arts Center (formerly Carson Brewing Company), the Ferris Mansion—yep, that Ferris—the Orion Clemens Mansion (where Mark Twain crashed for a bit), the St. Charles Hotel, and more.
