Explore the beauty of Fly Ranch and the Black Rock Desert region on a guided nature walk with Friends of Black Rock-High Rock. From wetlands and wild horses to art installations and multiple geysers, Fly Ranch Nature Walks showcase a side of Nevada you’ll have to see to believe.

On this anything-but-ordinary nature walk, you’ll see wildlife, Burning Man art, and geothermal wonders, including the kaleidoscopic Fly Geyser.

On select Saturdays, Friends of Black Rock-High Rock offers a roughly three-hour nature walk in partnership with the Burning Man Project, the non-profit organization that oversees the Fly Ranch sanctuary. Participants traverse through two distinct portions of the 3,800-acre property while knowledgeable docents detail the flora, fauna, and history of the area. You’ll see Burning Man artworks, visit wetlands, and three geothermal wonders—including the iconic Fly Geyser, known for its multicolored appearance. Keep an eye out for coyotes, jackrabbits, and other wildlife, too.

Travel Nevada Pro Tip

Please keep cameras and phones tucked away while on your Fly Ranch Nature Walk. Friends of Black Rock-High Rock encourages attendees to be present with all of your senses and enjoy the land without distractions. You’ll be able to take photos at the end of the experience when seeing the geysers!

Fly Ranch Nature Walks meet at the Friends of Black Rock-High Rock Visitor Center in Gerlach. Check-in is typically between 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., and tours generally end at 1 p.m. Sturdy, closed-toe shoes are recommended for an approximately 3-mile walk on uneven ground. Water, hats, and sunscreen are also recommended. Pets are not allowed on Fly Ranch Nature Walks and can’t be left in vehicles. For mobility issues, let Friends of Black Rock-High Rock know ahead of time so they can better accommodate.

For specific Fly Ranch Nature Walk dates and to purchase tickets, visit Friends of Black Rock-High Rock’s website.
