Short-Term Travel Alerts

• Major infrastructure projects will cause short-term disruptions at Great Basin National Park, including campground, trailhead, and road closures, as well as reduced Lehman Caves tours and relocation of evening programs. A majority of Great Basin National Park will remain open and accessible for visitors, though. Updates will be posted on Great Basin National Park’s website.
• Spring Mountains National Recreation Area, which includes Mt. Charleston, has now reopened most areas that sustained flash flood damage in 2023. In Lee Canyon (State Route 156), the Upper Bristlecone Trailhead and Trail remains closed. In Kyle Canyon (State Route 157), the following trails/trailheads are also closed: Mary Jane Falls, Trail Canyons, and Cathedral Rock. Echo Road and Powerline Access Road are inaccessible as well. On Deer Creek Road (State Route 158), Deer Creek Picnic Area is closed. The latest updates will be provided through Go Mt. Charleston and the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest’s website.

• Due to dam construction, Cave Lake is currently drained and shoreline access is closed. Cave Lake State Park remains open, as do campgrounds and trails (except for the Steptoe Creek Trail). Visit Cave Lake State Park’s website for the latest project updates.
